During treatment there will be a bright flash of light from the Lumecca that feels like a light elastic sensation. Redness and a slight warming of the skin are normal after treatment and usually subsides within an hour. Over the next 24-48 hours you may see a darkening of pigmented spots; in the week afterwards the pigmented lesions flake off, leading to an evening out of skin tone. After treating vascular lesions you may see the vein blanch and disappear or a color change in the vessel which dissipates after a few days.

what to expect
Before your treatment
Avoid sun exposure. Apply sunscreen daily and do not tan, including self- tanner for 4 to 6 weeks before and after treatments. Come to your appointment with a clean face. Remove all makeup if area to be treated is the face. If applicable, please come clean-shaven in the areas to be treated (this usually means the face and neck). If applicable, dress so that you may modestly expose the treatment area.

Post-procedure care
After Lumecca treatment, your skin will a little more sensitive to the sun. Patients should moisturize the treatment area with moisturizer and avoid makeup for at least a few days. Additionally, Dr. Youngblood recommends avoiding direct sun exposure for at least 24 hours. Dr. Youngblood also recommends that patients use a broad spectrum sunscreen every day. In addition to reducing the risk of skin cancer, sunscreens help slow the aging process.
